Buses n’ Backpacks

From the moment we delivered our first meal to a child in 2005, Buses n’ Backpacks has sought to engage with children, students and their families offering assistance not only for today, but assistance to realize a better tomorrow. We believe one of the most effective ways to help break the cycle of poverty and dependency is to raise up a generation of young people that have the skills, faith and confidence to pursue a different path.

How It Works

After a child is identified by a school official, their guardian is given the option to sign up for Buses n’ Backpacks. Every week the child gets a backpack for the weekend with 6 meals and 2 snacks. This is kept discreet by using backpacks that look just like all the packs their classmates have to carry home on the bus. We also teach responsibility by having the child return the empty pack to the school office each week. Often these families receive additional food from us for the extended break periods, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break and Summer.
